We Will Not Be Left Unaided........ 

Last month we spoke about joy and hope and how in our daily faith walk we rely on these gifts. We have just journeyed through the joy of Easter. We are now immersed in the Acts of the Apostles and revisiting the challenges of Jesus' disciples in the early church. The challenges have not gone away. The message of Acts is that the Holy Spirit takes what Jesus started and continues it with us.

The Advocate lets us carry on in grand style with renewed hope. This month we celebrate the wind and fire of Pentecost. We receive powerful gifts that turn de- spair into hope just as the 1st century disciples did. Do we respond as they did? Do we recognize Him in the breaking of the Bread? Do our hearts burn to share the gift of Jesus with everyone we know and love?

MOTHER’S DAY

he celebration of Mother’s Day has a long and interesting history. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica it originated with the custom of mother worship among the ancient Greeks. Through- out Asia Minor the Ides of March was designated as a day of honor to Rhea, “the mother of the gods.” With the coming of Christianity the honor gradually shifted to “Mother Church” and the day of cele- bration became the mid Sunday of Lent.
