Highlights from The School of Leaders – April 2010

Every month, the Twin City Cursillo sponsors a School of Leaders on the first Tuesday of the Month. The School of Leaders provides a place for new and time-tested Cursillista’s where they can 1) Learn more about Cursillo, 2) grow in spirituality, and 3) grow in Cursillo leadership knowledge and skill. Jesus says “Come follow me”. We say: “‘Yes Yes Lord’, because we have been to Leader School”.

Fr. Don Piche, co-pastor at St. Joseph the Worker and cousin to the Bishop, came to Leader School to talk to us about “The Resurrection”. He began his presentation by asking us “What does Resurrection bring to mind? This caught us off guard a bit but slowly we began to respond. We responded:

Power of God Compassion Peace Light of God

Fr. Don pointed out in this event; the status quo had been severely damaged. In a loud void, the crowd shifted from “heal me” to “Let’s get him”. Why aren’t we that angry about those who crucified Jesus? As Christians, we recognize the bigger picture (saving of all man kind) along with that fact that despite our good intentions we are sinful. Would we have been strong enough to be a disciple or would we have yelled “Crucify Him”.

Crucifixion Hope Joy Salvation

Crucifix ! I love the Crucifix. Fr. Don had brought along a Crucifix that had been made by a Christian group in Israel. They had used olive wood from a 2000 year old tree. This certainly got us thinking!

The experience. What must it have been like to experience this kind of death? We have seen or heard about doctor reports on how Crucifixion affects the body and seeing and hearing the movies has certainly fueled our imagination on the subject. And Jesus says “Forgive them”. When we are hurting, we often take a pill or want to be left alone and Jesus says “Forgive them”. Fr. Don mentioned about his occasional reading of the obituaries that talked about an individuals death and their courageous battle of fighting cancer, but “Who won?” Jesus freely accepted death and our challenge becomes to freely accept it as well.

Gift of Love Easter Morning Church Bells Covenant

The Power of the Resurrection is this complete, perfect gift of love. In crucifixion, the ugliest form of uglies, God was able to turn it to good. Rejoice in the happy fault of Adam that has brought us this Savior who came to save us and who washes away our sins. God has the power to use evil for good. Our challenge today is to take those “bad days” and use them for good or to get some good from it.

Promise Mystery Gift Compassion

Fr. Don began his conclusion by asking us “Do we live the resurrection”? Every day we have new opportunities to evangelize for Jesus and hopefully the missed opportunities do not out number the achieved opportunities. Embracing our own future death may seem easy when we are young and healthy, but our goal is to sustain this resurrection gift that all will be overcome thru Jesus. Jesus willingly accepted His cross; will we willingly accept ours? Remember, as a Christian we are taught to go down the correct path so that we can get to the light at the end of the tunnel. In Cursillo, the tunnel is lighted!

In care giving activities at our Church, we offer our care receiver gifts. In every self denial, there is a resurrection of our heart to God’s. Some day we might be able to say: “Thank you God for aging; The veil between earth and heaven is disappearing”.

Gift of Love Peace Contentment Alleluia

Apostolate without Prayer is empty; Prayer without Apostolate is a lie.
