The School of Leaders

In an effort to "demystify" Leaders' School and demonstrate that it is for all 4th-Dayers--i.e., user-friendly to all--the Post-Cursillo section of Secretariat, at the June 2001 meeting, decided to institute an "Ultreya of the Month" concept for Leaders' School.

Intended to bring more 4th-Dayers to Leaders' School to "sample" what it is really all about, it works as follows: each month's session of Leaders’ School will "feature" a different Ultreya being especially welcomed to Leaders' School. It is hoped that people from the featured Ultreya will come en masse to the Church of Saint Joseph for their special welcome, to witness firsthand the warmth, welcoming nature, spiritual encouragement, and servant-orientation of Leaders' School, and so become part of its mission.

Your Ultreya rep will announce what month your Ultreya is to be the featured Ultreya, with an open invitation to all members to come to Leaders' School that month. Please do so! After all, it is your Leaders' School!

School of Leader's is 7:00 PM, held the first Tuesday of every month at the Church of Saint Joseph in Hopkins.

The School of Leaders is not a gathering of leaders, but a grouping of those who are sincerely concerned about the health and continuity of the Cursillo movement in the Twin Cities.

Please come and join your fellow Cursillistas as we try to reach out for Christ.

Purpose of The School of Leaders

The School of Leaders historically has been misunderstood by many in the 4th day.  The School of Leaders is NOT a school as we normally think of it.  The School of Leaders is NOT a place where you have to be in a position of Leadership within the Cursillo Movement to attend. In fact, quite the opposite is true.

The School of Leaders is established to be a “Community of Servants” to the Cursillistas in the Cursillo community.  The School of Leaders is to the Cursillo community what the Team is to a Cursillo weekend.

In the Leaders Talk on the weekend, we find that all of us are leaders in the environments we frequent.  The School of Leaders provides an opportunity for any and all of us to unify our efforts to evangelize these environments.

From the 2006 Leaders Manual the School of Leaders has the following purposes.

  • To promote and assure the authenticity and integrity of the Cursillo Movement in all three phases (Precursillo, Cursillo, and Postcursillo)
  • To help and to facilitate the process of the Precursillo toward the Postcursillo through the Cursillo and to channel the restlessness of those who have lived  a Cursillo in a progressive state of conversion.
  • To establish, without exercising control or dominion over groups, the function of the School of extending the basic ideas of its function and operation, and to activate the assembly without obligating them.
  • To endow the Movement's deep and heartfelt unity.
  • To equilibrate the Movement's key parts.
  • To coordinate the Movement’s axis, the leaders.

You are encouraged to participate in this very important part of the Cursillo Movement.

Christ is counting on you!

School of Leaders Ultreya Schedule

Each month, the School of Leaders places emphasis on (Features) one of its sponsored Ultreyas (Table 1). Ultreya is the monthly grouping of Cursillistas. We would like to have each Ultreya representative attend Leader School. In addition, during the month that the Ultreya is featured, all members of the Ultreya are encouraged to attend since it is your Ultreya that is “in the spotlight” that evening. Your representatives and membership attendance is important because 1) The Lay Directors always have updated information on upcoming events that the Ultreya needs to be aware of, 2) The Ultreya Rep. needs to participate and contribute in that 4th day activity, the Post Cursillo Group, 3) The Ultreya Rep. can provide helpful commentary on what is working well in their Ultreya or what is not working, and 4) Ultreya members can learn as well as contribute their Christian Leadership to Cursillo.
