Highlights from The School of Leaders - July 6, 2010

Every month, the Twin City Cursillo sponsors a School of Leaders on the first Tuesday of the Month. The School of Leaders provides a place for new and time-tested Cursillista’s where they can 1) Learn more about Cursillo, 2) grow in spirituality, and 3) grow in Cursillo leadership knowledge and skill. Jesus says “Come follow me”. We say: “‘Yes Yes Lord’, because we have been to Leader School”.

At Leader School in July, Fr. Fernando Ortega, the current Spiritual Director for the upcoming Spanish weekends, conducted our commissioning ceremony.

Father’s reading for the evening came from Luke where Jesus sends out the 72 disciples, 2x2. You remember, Luke 10:1-6 One of Father’s first reflection was t hat Jesus sending the 72 was similar to us sending the team members to this Cursillo weekend. Be watchful, and pray that we become laborers to Jesus’ cause. A second key point Father made concerned “carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals”. Father likened this to a very austere situation and of course less worry because we did not have to worry about loosing these items and we could therefore concentrate on our mission. Kind of reminds us of our austere cloistering on our Cursillo weekends.

What always hits me so hard about this reading comes in verse 18 where the 72 say “Lord, even the demons are subject to us” and in verse 18 our Lord responds “I have observed Satan fall like lightening from the sky”. Having received God’s gift to work numerous weekends, I can solidly assure you that from my first weekend in 1970 to the last one this spring, I continue to feel God’s direct presence, his spiritual healing

The School of Leaders, along with Fr. Fernando, gave the Spanish Rector/Rectora, Alfonso Chavez and Maltida Perez, a prayerful and traditional Cursillo Blessing, along with our individual prayerful Laying On of the Hands.

At our August Leader School, Twin City Cursillo School of Leaders presents Fr. Bill Martin who will be talking on another important Cursillo topic, “The Beatitudes”. You will not want to miss this event

Apostolate without Prayer is empty; Prayer without Apostolate is a lie.
